AI Congress Rhineland-Palatinate at the RPTU in Kaiserslautern on 20.03.2024 - Prof. Dr. Marius Kloft's Machine Learning working group as co-organizer and Department of Computer Science represented with further speakers
Thanks to 104 registered participants from science, business and politics, the AI Congress Rhineland-Palatinate on March 20, 2024 at the RPTU in Kaiserslautern was a top-class event on the status and future of AI research in the state. We were particularly pleased to welcome the Minister of Science and Health of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, Minister of State Clemens Hoch. In the morning, the representatives of the universities and universities of applied sciences in Rhineland-Palatinate presented their respective AI strategies; the Vice President for Research, Prof. Dr. Werner R. Thiel, did this for RPTU. In the afternoon, AI researchers presented selected lighthouse projects of the individual institutions; for RPTU, the Department of Computer Science was represented by Prof. Dr. Marius Kloft and Junior Prof. Dr. Sophie Fellenz with the joint presentation "Interdisciplinary Application of Artificial Intelligence in Process Engineering and Biotechnology - DFG AI Research Group: Deep Learning on Sparsely Populated Chemical Process Data". Last but not least, Prof. Dr. Katharina A. Zweig with her presentation "Better decisions with machines?" and Prof. Dr. Prof. h.c. Andreas Dengel with his presentation "Status and Perspectives of Artificial Intelligence" as AI ambassadors of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate provided interesting insights into their visions of artificial intelligence; here, too, other renowned experts from the Department of Computer Science had their say. The event was organized by the local AI project office of the AI Alliance Rhineland-Palatinate, which is based at the Machine Learning working group of Prof. Dr. Marius Kloft, and was actively supported by his group in terms of technical and organizational aspects. We generally received very positive feedback on our event, which was even featured on the regional TV news on SWR (see link https://www.swr.de/swraktuell/rheinland-pfalz/ki-kongress-in-kaiserslautern-100.html above).
