Information about the Content
Computer science is increasingly representing a key technology within the field of medical technology. The development of efficient computer systems and algorithms has opened up new possibilities in establishing medical diagnosis and therapy procedures as well as in medical data processing. Achievements of medical informatics are reflected in the rapid development of new technological procedures like innovative imaging and analysis procedures, computer assisted surgery or the setting up of hospital and radiology information systems. Current developments like mobile telemedical applications, compatible with age assistance systems to support life in a home environment or techniques taken from the field of artificial intelligence to analyse vast amounts of medical data also represent current qualification objectives within medical informatics.
Therefore, the programme is highly interdisciplinary to meet the professional requirements of future graduates. The programme aims to provide a thorough computer science education as well as a broad-based training within medical informatics. Because of its curriculum it prepares for software oriented job profiles. The competencies of future graduates can be found in the field of medical software development, computer assisted diagnosis, medical information systems as well as telemedicine. Another objective of this programme is to prepare students, who wish to gain further qualifications, to continue their education with a Master programme in computer science.
