  • Logo Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics ITWM

Strategically, the Fraunhofer ITWM is positioned at the interface between simulation/mathematical modelling and Artificial Intelligence (AI), i. e. in the development of hybrid procedures that combine the advantages of the methods. Simulation also serves to improve the data situation. In the area of AI research, the focus is on self-learning models and the development of methods in large-scale deep learning in conjunction with big data.
In research, the institute develops deep learning methods – for example, for the detection of deep fakes – but also makes flat methods practicable that are particularly adapted to small data situations.
In a large number of current AI-oriented industrial projects, the Fraunhofer ITWM flexibly uses all available hardware solutions across all departments for development and implementation – from embedded processors, FPGAs, and workstations to high-performance GPU clusters (100 GPUs).
